University Of Colorado Boulder
01.2024 - 05.2024
  • Teach 2 classes of 14 students for a 3-hour introductory geology lab course as the primary instructor.
  • Present 20-30 minute lecture slides before each lab (12).
  • Utilize research-based instructional methods (e.g., discussion) to create a student-centered environment.
  • Design and grade course materials in Canvas, including labs, quizzes, exams, and extra-credit opportunities.
  • Lead 6 on- and off-campus field trips with a certificate in CPR and first-aid to ensure student safety.
  • Facilitate weekly 2-hour office hours for 10 introductory lab courses, including the geology lab course.
  • Attend weekly 1-hour meetings with fellow teaching assistants to share past experience resources for geology labs.

Graduate Student Teaching Assistant

Rice University
08.2020 - 12.2020
  • Lead weekly 1-hour for 3 discussion sections of 15 students for an introductory Natural Hazards course.
  • Grade weekly homework and final projects in Canvas.
  • Encourage class discussions by actively soliciting input, asking open-ended questions, and using techniques to track student participation.

Graduate Student Teaching Assistant

Marquette University
08.2017 - 05.2018
  • Teach weekly 2-hour labs for 3 sections of 15 undergraduate students for an introductory physics lab course.
  • Manage 12 physics experiments conducted by students during lab and ensure student safety.
  • Teach scientific writing through in-class interactions with students and feedback on 10 casual and 2 formal lab reports.
  • Facilitate weekly 2-hour office hours to assist with homework problems by asking open-ended questions and drawing physics problems/diagrams on the board to support problem solving.
  • Meet weekly with the physics lab primary instructor and fellow teaching assistants to tear down and/or set up lab equipment for student physics experiments.

Undergraduate Student Teaching Assistant

Marquette University
08.2019 - 12.2019
  • Mentor and assist 12 students during 1-hour weekly introductory physics discussion sections.
  • Support students in completing worksheets with physics problems by correcting misconceptions and reinforcing correct conceptions.

Research Experience

  • Collect data from websites and phone call with experts that are related structure and implementation for 29 teaching-focused professional development (PD) programs offered at 3 types of US institutions of higher education (i.e., community college, emerging-research institution, research-intensive institution). (University of Colorado at Boulder, 08/2022 - Present)
  • Conduct a textual analysis on qualitative data collected for all 29 PD programs to categorize programs (e.g., program type, funding, duration, facilitator). (University of Colorado at Boulder, 08/2022 - Present)
  • Conduct 22 semi-structured interviews with undergraduate STEM instructors to ask 20 questions related to their experience with an 8-week PD program where participants learned about research-based instructional strategies and how to implement them in their undergraduate science courses. (University of Colorado at Boulder, 08/2022 - Present)
  • Conduct a thematic analysis on study participant responses to code 20 interview questions for 22 semi-structured interviews to determine how an 8-week PD program influenced their teaching practices and use of research-based instructional methods before and after the program. (University of Colorado at Boulder, 08/2022 - Present)
  • Increase reliability and validity in codes derived from thematic analysis of interview data by conducting an inter-rater comparison and calculating Cohen's Kappa to quantify the level of agreement between my research advisor's and my codes. (University of Colorado at Boulder, 08/2022 - Present)
  • Develop 4 discrete element models (DEMs) of Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii, to analyze shear strain, shear stress, and displacement, determining the influence of flank geometry on slip behavior along the south flank basal fault. (Rice University, 08/2020)
  • Manage and analyze four databases (50 x 2000 entries) of data generated by DEMs, ensuring accuracy in data interpretation and integration. (Rice University, 08/2020)
  • Create four MATLAB data visualizations from DEM displacement outputs, comparing slip behavior by plotting displacement against model duration, effectively generating spectrograms to visualize seismic behavior along the basal fault. (Rice University, 08/2020)
