Work History

EMT-IV

Falck Rocky Mountain
Aurora, CO
01.2026 - Current
  • As an EMT at Falck, the main job description includes 911 scene responses. On a BLS ambulance, my role includes the safety of my partner and I, assessment of the patient, taking vitals, performing interventions within the Aurora EMT scope of practice, and transporting the patient to the hospital. A significant decision that I need to make is if a patient needs ALS care. Knowing the Aurora protocols is vital for an EMT in Aurora.
  • In addition to BLS calls, EMTs on a BLS rig respond to ALS calls as well with the Aurora Fire department. On scene, the Aurora fire paramedics run the call, and the EMTs perform interventions that the paramedic requests within their scope of practice. We are on many high acuity calls with Aurora Fire paramedics.
  • Some of these calls include cardiac arrests, sepsis, strokes, car accidents, and other trauma and medical calls that require ALS interventions.
  • My skills include EKG placement, IVs, medication administration, capnography reading, primary and secondary assessment, cpr and monitor use, trauma assessment and skill including collar and backboard use. Other skills include understanding many patient home medications, using and utilizing pt history and medications for critical thinking of a call.
  • A final understanding of my role is that some BLS calls are lower acuity that do not require ALS. Despite the acuity of that call, the patient is still to be treated with a high level of care like any other call. A patient might be in a lot of pain, mentally emotionally, or physically, and it is my job to treat the patient to the best of my ability, with the respect and care that they deserve.
