3 months working at Rocky Mountain National Parks Water Lab.
Spring 2023 I began interning at Rocky Mountain National Park in the Water Lab. While interning, I got hands on experience with system activation, maintaining a system, chemical feeds, gathering and completing Bac-T samples each month, quality assurance and quality control testing, confined space tests, public and private water distribution systems, tank inspections, data entry, water treatment, meter checks, chlorine residuals, identifying a solution to the problem during construction on the main treatment plant, and more. I also acquired knowledge regarding compliance with the CDPHE, such as sample monitoring, consumer confidence reports, and certified laboratory lists, and Colorado Water Laws, including the Prior Appropriation System and how to treat and maintain both ground and surface water systems. The knowledge I gained from this experience has set me up for success within my field and provided me with a chance to immerse myself into what I am passionate about. I learned a lot while working for the NPS and I am eager to learn more within my field. If there are any questions regarding my internship, my supervisor Colby Birchfield can be reached at (479) 644-9196.
