  • In-house facility for boys aged 11 to 20, addressing cases from minor offenses to serious crimes. Established partnerships with 35 states and the District of Columbia.
  • The first 5 years I was at High Plains I taught a group of 12 boys in all subjects, including life skills. Earning a high school diploma was the goal.
  • The last 2 years I was at High Plains each unit departmentalized. I then taught math to four groups of 12 boys.
  • I was responsible for the "education" portion of the IETP (individual education, and treatment plan). We had to maintain monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.
  • Helped lead the sex offender and violent offender groups as needed.
  • When short staffed I served as "youth worker". The A.M. youth worker is responsible for waking the boys, escorting them to breakfast and their daily actives. The P.M. youth worker escorted the boys to supper and their evening group sessions and finalyy saw they went to bed.
  • Accompanied boys and other staff on a day pass.
  • Attended parole hearings and provided necessary information to the parol board.
