Didier Sanjuan Torres

As a full-time English instructor at the National Open and Distance University (UNAD), I work within the Virtual Institute of Languages, which is responsible for the transversal English program across all undergraduate programs. My primary role involves designing and delivering meaningful learning experiences that foster the development of communicative competence among students ranging from 17 to 70 years old. I conduct virtual classes, provide personalized tutoring, and offer continuous academic guidance through the online learning platform to ensure students’ progress and engagement. My approach combines academic rigor with empathy and adaptability, recognizing the diverse needs, backgrounds, and learning paces of distance education students. In addition to teaching, I actively contribute to academic events and activities organized by the University’s Office of Student Well-being, promoting intercultural understanding, community engagement, and the practical use of English in real contexts. I am also involved in creating and adapting pedagogical materials that enhance autonomous learning and align with the institution’s quality standards. Through my work, I aim to strengthen the mission of the Virtual Institute of Languages by integrating innovation, inclusion, and meaningful communication in every learning process. This role allows me to contribute not only to language proficiency but also to the personal and professional growth of students who are shaping their future through open and distance education.

I served as an English classroom teacher for students from preschool through 11th grade, delivering age-appropriate lessons that strengthened language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I planned and implemented engaging learning experiences aligned with institutional standards, fostered a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and supported students’ academic growth through continuous assessment and personalized feedback. Additionally, I collaborated with colleagues to develop curricular materials and contributed to schoolwide initiatives aimed at improving English language proficiency.
