  • I was hired along with two other officers after a lateral transfer process to serve as the first career captains on Evergreen Fire Rescue. This was an opportunity to help form a fire department from almost the ground up. I am responsible for a 126 square mile district in the Colorado Front Range. We respond to medical, fire, wildland, and technical rescue events.

  • I served as a company officer assigned to an engine. My duties entailed overseeing one station with an engine and ambulance crew. I supervised my crews on emergency scenes and provided direct supervision during fire incidents while extinguishment, search and overhaul duties are performed.
  • When the Captain is off duty, I was moved to the rank of Acting Shift Commander. This constituted 35% of my time. In this role I supervised 2 firehouses and 7 pieces of equipment. I was charged with supervision of all firefighters in my command, running incidents up to the 2nd alarm level and responsible for the captains' administrative duties, such as attendance, payroll, NIFRS and ordering of supplies.
  • Charged with maintaining and growing the inventory of hand tools available to firefighters at the Maywood Fire Department. Including hydraulic rescue tools and TIC cameras.
  • My education, experience and engagement was the reason I was offered this role, typically filled by an officer. In this position I was responsible for coordinating the licensing and continuing education process for each individual, co-writing and teaching continuing education classes, and performing communication and fulfillment duties with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) for vehicle licensing, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Loyola Hospital Resource Center.
  • I was part of an aggressive team that mitigated thousands of emergency calls from gunshots to multi car accidents and small to large scale fire incidents.
