I had practical experience in bacteriophage research while working as an intern in the SEA-PHAGES program. By separating and describing bacteriophages from environmental samples, I was able to advance knowledge of phage variety and its possible uses in microbiology.

In close collaboration with my partner, we:

• To isolate bacteriophages, environmental samples were gathered and processed.
• Purified and characterized phage samples using serial dilutions and plaque tests.
• Performed gel electrophoresis and DNA extraction to examine the genetic content of phages.
• Phage genomes were annotated and categorized using bioinformatics methods.
• Worked together with mentors and peers to decipher results and troubleshoot issues.
  
  I was able to contribute to worthwhile research within the SEA-PHAGES program, improve my knowledge of microbiology and genetics, and hone my laboratory abilities.
